How to order RBC Shoes

RBC custom cycling shoes 5 easy steps to ordering

Custom cycling shoes are easily ordered from RBC and the following 5 steps will help you understand and become part of the manufacturing process.

  1. Contact RBC and have a discussion on your needs as well as your design input. You can request a Skype or phone call, or we can chat on one of our social networking sites. Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, and MSN. Should you be able to come to RBC for casting, steps 2 to 5 are not needed
  2. Email your delivery address for the casting kit to be sent to. RBC will respond with an invoice and details where you can make your deposit.
  3. Pay a 50% deposit by bank transfer, telegraphic transfer, credit card, pay pal or western union. Paying your deposit will secure your place in line, pay for the casting kit and the postage for the kit.
  4. When your kit arrives, familiarise yourself with the process then call to arrange a Skype meeting with RBC to assist you with the casting of your feet. (Invite some friends over for an entertaining time.)
  5. Once your casts are dry, send them off to RBC following the packing instructions along with your completed order form.

Delivery time and manufacturing process

Once your deposit is paid and your casts arrive, the delivery time varies throughout the year. This is due to the small amount of staff making your shoes. An estimate will be given at the time of your order and this is subject to change during the process.

  • For the first part of the process your negative casts will be turned into a positive.
  • Your casts will sit on the shelf drying for some time waiting for their turn to be started.
  • While the casts are drying RBC will send you a computer design of how you want your completed shoes to look.
  • Once the design and look is confirmed then we will begin to make the patterns from scratch for your shoes
  • Once the real work starts we will ask for the final payment to complete the shoes.
  • During the manufacturing process you will receive emails and photos updating you on the progress of your shoes.
  • When your shoes are completed we will send you a photo and a tracking number so you can track them to your door.

What happens when I receive my shoes?

  1. Set up your cleats. There is a small dot or lump over the big toe joint this represents where the cleat position was determined. This is a good point to start cleat positioning.
  2. Measure the height differences between shoes. Your new RBC shoes will come with a small report that will include the shoes thickness or stack height.
  3. With the difference in height determined lower your seat and head stem to suit the new height. If possible have a friend or bike fitter look over your position.
  4. Now that everything is set for your first ride we suggest that the fastening of the shoe is not tight. They are custom made and non stretch so there will be no need to over tighten them UNLESS you are using the shoes as a sprint shoe.

What happens if I have a Problem?

As a custom shoe manufacturer many people believe that everything should be perfect because you have had the shoes custom made. RBC takes every effort to make sure we get everything dialled in, but a foot is a dynamic thing and can throw the odd curve ball at us. If there are any concerns please raise them and RBC will go to every effort to help you dial them in.

Here are some small things that may or may not need tweaking.

  • Velcro straps may be a little too long or short
  • The lace gap may be too narrow
  • Slightly too long in the toes
  • Slightly too narrow in the toes
  • Cleat drillings may need relocating.
